As soon as I heard about the newest COVID-19 variant Omicron appearing in other countries (and us as a result stopping flights from those countries), my heart sank. Now a week later, today, the first Omicron case in the United States was identified in San Francisco, California. That doesn’t mean there aren’t other Omicron cases across the nation; California simply has much more resources and firepower when it comes to identifying COVID-19.
As of now, it’s unclear what Omicron means, and we may not see an answer to that until the end of December. For now, this gives much more incentive to get the booster shot, which was finally made available for everyone a week ago as well. Just pure speculation, but if Omicron does become a big deal, there really needs to be a way to heavily restrict travel from other states, you know, the ones that have shit vaccination rates.
